At a time like this, can we vibrate a little higher?

At a time like this, can we vibrate a little higher?

We are not humans having random spiritual experiences, rather we are spiritual beings having a human experience.

Our thoughts and our words have the power to move mountains. And what goes on in your mind and what is spoken by your tongue can also destroy hope, slay faith and feed bitterness.

I know very well that it is very easy to sing hallelujah's and have a positive outlook in times when you are at the top of the mountain. It is not so easy to do that when you are held to the fire. But even during times of trials and tribulations, we can choose to look at the world through a filter of love and gratitude.

Today, as I was driving around in town, I felt a surge of playfulness and I decided to smile and wave at every pedestrian that I pass on the side of the road. Yes, I know it is considered totally weird to wave at random strangers, but something remarkable happened. Every single person that I managed to make eye contact with and smiled at sheepishly, spontaneously lifted their hands to wave. Whether they were frowning or deep in thought, the sight of a smiling face waving at them made them instinctively mirror the behavior. Granted, some of them quickly realised the awkwardness of waving at a stranger and looked slightly irritated at themselves for waving back. Others stood still and looked over their shoulders to try to identify me or my car.

When we choose to smile when we feel like frowning, when we show kindness when the world appears hostile, when we encourage someone else's dream when ours seem to be out of reach and when we soften our approach instead of becoming cold and bitter, something spectacular takes hold of our hearts and open our eyes to the infinite opportunities we have everyday to touch the lives of others both profoundly and in a fleeting moment of joy.

Can you imagine for a moment what power there is in being a positive force in this world? Can you see in your mind's eye the ripple effect of a random act of kindness? I encourage you to lift your spirits a little higher and look out for the waving weirdo passing you on the street!
